Selling Absolute Rubbish Is a Gift

I am constantly astounded at the inability of gift shop owners in the country's hot spots to sell anything that anyone might remotely want to buy and that might have something to do with the area in which the gift shop is sited.

There's always a glass animal of some description, perfectly crafted, with the name of the place stencilled somewhere and on the base it says "Made in China" and guess what, you saw exactly the same thing in Teneriffe airport last year. Absolute rubbish which has been harvested in the Far East and has absolutely no connection whatsoever with this country.

Go into any gift shop and look out for the plates made into clocks, strange table lamps, place mats featuring everywhere but where you actually are, T shirts bearing slogans for somewhere else and so on and so on.

So here is a hint for anyone setting up a gift shop. Sell stock that reflects your surroundings in some way. If I'm in the Peak District I don't want a snow shaker of Nelson's Column for goodness sake. Make it relevant please.
